A Practical Guide to Resin Driveway Maintenance in 2026

A contractor discussing resin driveway aftercare

Resin-bound systems, resin-bonded surfaces and repair coatings can need different care. The installed product, base, condition, warranty and manufacturer instructions should determine the maintenance method. This general guide is not a substitute for those documents.

Collect the handover information

Record the installer, product or system name, aggregate, installation date, curing restrictions, cleaning instructions, warranty terms and an aftercare contact. If this information is missing, ask the installer or a suitable resin specialist before applying a chemical, coating or repair product.

Keep ordinary debris under control

Remove leaves, soil and loose debris using the method recommended for the installed system. Deal with spills promptly, but test any cleaner in an inconspicuous area and follow the product instructions. Prevent runoff from carrying unsuitable cleaning chemicals into planting, drains or watercourses.

Do not assume one pressure or chemical is safe

Pressure-washing distance, nozzle, pressure, temperature, detergent, moss treatment and de-icing advice vary. Excessive pressure or an incompatible chemical may damage or discolour a surface. Follow the installer and manufacturer guidance rather than a generic distance, schedule or household remedy.

Inspect changes instead of masking them

Ask a specialist about cracks, sinking, ponding, widespread loose aggregate, drainage changes or significant staining. These symptoms can have different causes, and adding a topcoat or patch without diagnosing the issue may not solve it. Do not promise that resealing will make an older driveway look new or extend it for a fixed number of years.

Use vehicles and equipment carefully

Follow the system’s stated loading and curing limits. Discuss point loads, jacks, skips, access equipment, sharp objects and chemical spills with the installer where relevant. Do not make blanket claims that every salt, shovel, solvent or cleaning tool is safe for every resin system.

Know the visualiser’s limit

Driveway Visualiser can create an illustrative AI concept for an early colour or surface discussion. It cannot identify the installed aggregate, assess UV performance, diagnose damage, match a repair blend accurately or specify a coating. Confirm products with samples, records and a specialist.

Give customers system-specific aftercare

Contractors should provide aftercare that matches the actual installed system and warranty, including who to contact with a defect. Review guidance when products change. Clear records are more useful than a universal cleaning calendar or an unsupported service-life claim.
